Romanian-born American baritone Sebastian Catana has built in recent years an outstanding name in the opera world, mainly as an interpreter of Verdi baritone roles, making him one of the most sought after baritones of his generation. Catana was a member of the training programs at Seattle Opera and Baltimore Opera and made his operatic debut in 2001 as Thoré in Meyebeer's Les Huguenots at Carnegie Hall with the Opera Orchestra of New York. In 2003, he sang Schaunard in La bohème under Daniel Oren for his debut at the Metropolitan Opera where he also sang his first Valentin in Faust during the 2006/07 season among many other supporting roles. In the 2007/08 season he made his European debut as Paolo in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna. 

Sebastian Catana has performed at numerous major opera houses and festivals worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera New York, Arena di Verona, Teatro dell'Opera di Roma, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Opèra National de Paris, Israeli Opera Tel Aviv, Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen, Oper Frankfurt, Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Philadelphia Opera, Teatro La Fenice Venice, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro di San Carlo Naples, Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse, Teatro Municipal Santiago, Opèra de Lyon, Amsterdam Concertgebouw, Savonlinna Festival, Macerata Sferisterio Festival, Parma Verdi Festival and Dortmund's Klangvokal Music Festival.

The most frequently sung roles of his extensive repertoire include the title roles in Nabucco and Rigoletto, Scarpia (Tosca), Amonasro (Aida), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Il Conte di Luna (Il trovatore) and Alfio (Cavalleria Rusticana). He has worked with conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Daniel Oren, Placido Domingo, James Levine, Michele Mariotti, Daniele Gatti, Paolo Carignani, Daniele Rustioni, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Daniele Callegari Maurizio Arena, Giacomo Sagripanti, Fabrizio Carminati, Pietro Rizzo and Paolo Arrivabeni.

Sebastian Catana has been awarded numerous international prizes and has won several competitions, including the first prize at the 2006 Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation's Voice Competition New York, and first prize at the 2004 New Jersey State Opera International Voice Competition, He holds an Artist Diploma degree in Voice performance from Duquesne University and graduate degrees in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Michigan.

Der in Rumänien geborene amerikanische Bariton Sebastian Catana machte sich in den vergangenen Jahren einen hervorragenden Namen in der Opernwelt und zählt vor allem als Interpret von Verdis Bariton-Partien zu den gefragtesten Sängern seiner Generation. Er war Mitglied der Ausbildungsprogramme der Seattle Opera und der Baltimore Opera und gab sein Operndebüt 2001 als Thoré in Les Huguenots in der Carnegie Hall mit dem Opera Orchestra of New York. 2003 debütierte er als Schaunard in La bohème unter Daniel Oren an der Metropolitan Opera und war dort anschließend in zahlreichen Nebenrollen zu erleben, bis er in der Spielzeit 2006/07 erstmals die Rolle des Valentin in Faust übernahm. Sebastian Catana wurde mit zahlreichen internationalen Preisen ausgezeichnet und gewann mehrere Wettbewerbe, unter anderem den zweiten Preis der Giulio Gari Foundation International Voice Competition in New York 2007, den ersten Preis der Licia Albanese-Puccini Foundation Voice Competition in New York 2006, den zweiten Preis der Loren L. Zachary Society National Vocal Competition in Los Angeles 2006, den ersten Preis der New Jersey State Opera International Voice Competition 2004, den ersten Preis der Opera Index Competition in New York 2003, den zweiten Preis der Jensen Foundation Competition for Opera Singers in New York 2001, den ersten Preis der Connecticut Opera Competition 2000 und Stipendien der Lee Schaenen Foundation und der Liederkranz Foundation. Er erhielt ein künstlerisches Diplom in Gesang an der Duquesne University und absolvierte als Chemieingenieur an der Carnegie Mellon University und der University of Michigan.
